Description
It's 1692. Bridget Bishop is accused of witchcraft and YOU are the jury. Hear the evidence, cross-examine the witnesses and determine the outcome. The actors respond as Puritans, revealing much about the Puritan mind. Is Bridget Bishop capable of witchcraft? You decide.
Ten minutes before the show, you can join in the public arrest of Bridget Bishop outside our performance venue. Be sure to check in for your show before that so you can keep up with the actors as they go into the building from the outside portion!
Before the enactment begins, a pre-show exposition is shared that will give some context to 17th century Puritan world view. Some unfamiliar words you might hear in the show are "specter", "demon familiar", "Quaker" "excrescence" and others. You'll get to ask questions at specific points throughout the show, so feel free not only to cross examine the witnesses when the time comes, but to ask about anything that is unfamiliar to you.
The show uses a theatrical device called "doubling", which is when an actor plays several roles in the show. The actors change some costume pieces, as well as their demeanor to do so. You can ask questions of the actors as several different characters and they'll switch character accordingly.
Photography is allowed but video is not. If you like to draw be sure to volunteer to sketch the court proceedings when asked!
Traveling in our minds to 17th century New England is a little like visiting a foreign country. We are excited to time travel with you!
